We have recently developed a new website for True Heroes (formerly known as Afghan Heroes). True heroes are a charity that deal specifically with members of the British armed forces and their families that have been affected by the military operations in Afghanistan now and in the future.

The homepage on the new site is one that will constantly be changing. This is because it features lots of news feeds taking the most recent posts from various different places such as; Facebook, Twitter, the events page and the blog. The page will therefore, be kept both current and relevant showing latest events and information. There is also a module dedicated to the fallen heroes showing respect for the most recent unfortunate loss. The site has cycling banner images at the top of each page in which True Heroes have the ability to edit and change themselves.

One of the most recent news items on the homepage is “The Retreat”. The ultimate goal for the charity was always to provide a post services facility, and with all the help and support of the general public they finally have their first one. These facilities help to keep heroes off the streets and enable them to rebuild their lives, being retrained into new careers, with like minded personnel who have witnessed and been through what they have.

True Heroes have recently started up the Somerset Retreat in which former soldiers attend for its unique post services facility. They took over the premises in November last year and spent a frantic few weeks completely refurbishing the property in Ashcott near Glastonbury ready to welcome its first residents. The True Heroes staff have barely had time to catch their breath since they opened at Christmas. The Retreat offers accommodation for half a dozen former services personnel above the successful bar and restaurant business serving the local community. True Heroes had always intended for The Retreat’s to be able to stand alone as fully functioning businesses rather than them being subsidised by the charity themselves.

The new website features responsive design techniques so that it adapts to the device it is being viewed on, taking nicely to being viewed on mobile devices. The site also gives people the opportunity to purchase True Heroes merchandise online. True Heroes have the ability to update the content on their site thanks to the full content management system giving them total control over the website.

Visitors can find out more about the charity’s work and get involved by donating their money and time to True Heroes. The website features a large ‘Donate’ button on each page. If you would like to donate to True Heroes go to http://www.trueheroes.org.uk/donate it would be much appreciated.

The home page on the Sherborne Girls website features various different news feeds. For example, it includes; a Facebook feed that takes posts directly from the Sherborne Girls Facebook page, a ‘Latest News’ feed taking the most recent articles from the blog and a calendar feed taking current and upcoming events from the calendar. This is effective in providing users with up to date information that will be constantly changing with various items of school news and events, keeping the homepage both current and relevant.

The site features a new menu providing simple navigation and a breadcrumb trail with various levels helping users to easily navigate back and forth between pages. There is also a new gallery system which enables Sherborne Girls to separate pictures from different events into categories providing a high quality banner image for each one.

Like many of the sites that we’ve developed recently, the new Sherborne Girls website uses responsive design techniques so can therefore, adapt to the device that it is being viewed on, providing you with a viewing experience that is tailored to your mobile device.

The new site has an admission registration form, giving parents the ability to register their daughter at the school online. It also enables people to view and apply online for job vacancies at the school. It has a complete content management system allowing Sherborne Girls to have full control over the content of the site including the calendar and the gallery.

On redesigning the site we have made it responsive so it therefore, provides an acceptable viewing experience tailored to the device it is being viewed on. The new design gives the Wimbledon Hospitality website a fresh look and feel.

We have been working side by side with m1c since 1998 when we moved into the offices with just a handful of employees each. Over the years, both m1c and ourselves have expanded and now with a combined number of more than 22 members of staff, it’s time that we went our separate ways. Mark One Consultants have packed up their things and moved to another location. Although we are sad to see them leave, this gives us the chance to utilise the extra office space, providing us with the opportunity for future expansion.

Wildwoods are a company based in Halstock, Dorset who offer services ranging from hedge laying and garden clearance to tree surgery such as reduction, shaping, pruning, dismantling and felling. They also sell seasoned logs, kindling, charcoal, wood chip and garden mulch.

Each page of the website features a different background image which is made up of 2D layers moving at different rates giving the site a 3D look and feel to it. It also uses responsive design so allows the user the have an acceptable viewing experience tailored to the device they are choosing to view it on. The site includes a gallery page with a selection of high quality Wildwoods pictures and a contact page which features a form to send any enquiries.

If the forecast snow does arrive here tomorrow in Yeovil, then there may be a chance that we are not contactable by phone. However, we will be open for any email enquiries during our normal office hours of 9-5:30. Snow is an inconvenience to many but, it’s not due to be around for long, soon turning to rain near the coast and in the west. Therefore, we hope you have fun, throw a snowball or two and enjoy it while it lasts!

Here are some of the things the year 2012 brought us:

• 2012 gave us the chance to finally say goodbye to Internet Explorer 6. In an era of modern web standards, less than 6% of the world population are now using IE6 and less than 1% of people in the UK are using it. With the usage of IE6 massively decreasing, more and more websites are dropping support for IE6.
  
  
• We have seen the continuing rise of the use in mobile technology over desktops. The amount of people using mobile technology rather than desktop, in the UK, is now 16.52% – an increase of another 5% over the past year. This is a massive increase seeing as back in 2009 just 1.56% of the population were using mobile. According to estimates, by 2016 there will be 10 billion mobile internet devices used globally. The world population is expected to be 7.3 billion by 2016, so that’s 1.4 devices per person on the planet. The continuing rise has brought a massive increase in websites now using responsive design.
  
  
• 2012 saw Chrome overtake Internet Explorer. In January 2012, the most popular browser was Internet Explorer with 37.45% of people using it whilst Chrome was just 28.4%. However, as the year went on, Chrome overtook IE and by December 2012 had 36.42% usage whereas IE had just 30.78%*.
